All Composed & Recorded By Masami Akita A psychadelic harsh noise album that's many harsh moments fall somewhere between Pulse Demon and Pinkream in sound, but that's quieter moments are the real standout. For example, the excellent Talipes (Analogue Mix) starts off with quiet pulsing series of clicking noises that slowly build in intensity and duration, and then drops off again into a clicks with a subtle bass pulse hidden in the mix, while distorted mechanical metal sounds play through the stereo field and overwhelm the original elements. It's a standout track and one of the more memorable moments here. The rest of the cd is a great mix of psychadelic-harsh and straight-up harsh noise, and there is a clear progression from Pulse Demon to Pinkream to Spiral Honey to the absolute masterpiece Space Metalizer. Trivia: Great Deciever is also a song by King Crimson on their early 1970s album Starless and Bible Black; King Crimson is one of Akita's all-time favorite bands and this track seems to involve a short guitar sample that might be from that song. I wish I actually owned this cd but instead I had to borrow it from a friend, so if anyone has a spare they'd like to trade or donate, get in touch! |
