An epic 68 minute live improvisation. Pan Sonic are a duo from Finland who are known for intense minimal techno, often consisting of very pure, pulsing tones and clicks. They are outspoken about their interest in music which is physically affecting, in pitches that resonate with the body. This 68 minute live recording of Pan Sonic and Merzbow improvising covers a wide territory of sounds, often high pitched and droning, but occasionally thick and full, at other times nearly silent. During the last 10 minutes there is even a steady beat from what is recognizably a techno drum machine. On this recording, the trio succeed in making sounds that are physically affecting: while listening to this cd on headphones, the final few seconds of the performance actually made my eyes water. |
